In my 2.2 comp crawler I am running 45 front and rear. In my 1.9 I am using 25. In my super I think I am 40. Now, all that being said, you really need to know the piston that you have in the shocks as well. Without knowing that, the oil weight means pretty much nothing. I am using stock shocks and pistons on my XR10 and Honcho. The thicker the oil the more resistance on the shock. In a rock crawler i would start around 30-40 weight oil and go from there. The springs are more important. To change the oil, take off the top of the shock and drain the oil into the garbage. Make sure you move the piston up and down to get it all out. Crawler Innovations has multistage foam (memory and standard foam), closed cell foam and a variety of all of the above in different densities. Pro-Line offers a dual stage foam for for 2.2″ tires in addition to their memory foams. Bottom line: slightly firmer rear foams will help on difficult climbs.

Oil shocks will not rebound to their full extent because they are not pressurized, this is the springs job to do the rebounding. The oil's job is to only dampen the "bounce" out of the spring.
